If you prefer 80x50, here's a couple of ways: pass vga=extended to the kernel (either via lilo.conf or grub.conf) edit /etc/sysconfig/i18n to use the font lat0-08 (vs lat0-sun16 or whatever else Red Hat 8 uses). You could also change it to something else, but size 8 or lower will keep it nice and "small".
