Marc you will find youget more replies if you create a new thread rather
than try to split a topic.

If I understand it correctly, you don't tell the kernel to use the swap
file it will use it if it needs to.  Most of the questions about this
will come from the other approach.  Like where has all my memory gone? 
THe kernel will buffer data in memory if it has extra in case you need
to access it again is the answer to that one.
