hello RH-List ! i'm just new on the list, and also new in linux. RH8 is installed on my pc (2.0 GHz,512 Mo), dual with W-XP, and it seems to be running quite slowly ... windows and KDE need a lot of memory !
i checked the memory and discovered that the swap file is NOT used at all. although the ram memory is not totally used, i would like to have some more information about this ... is it possible (and how ?) to tell the OS to use the swap file? here is the output of 'top' command : ********** 1:14pm up 1:47, 4 users, load average: 0,08, 0,11, 0,09 83 processes: 81 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped CPU states: 1,5% user, 1,5% system, 0,0% nice, 96,8% idle Mem: 513476K av, 501008K used, 12468K free, 0K shrd, 49896K buff Swap: 1052216K av, 0K used, 1052216K free 203936K cached ******* thanks for any help or comment !
