For my money gvim in fact I have an alias setup: alias vi='gvim -reverse synatx hughlighting for just about anything you can imagine and so feature rich that I am sure I only use about 25% if it capabilities, if that much. I just founf the diff split suff with is way cool for looking at highlighed versions of the same file to see the diffs. you will need to instal the vim-enhanced, cim-common and vim-X11 packages.
