That is the same thing.  You might be able to cure this for a few
minutes by changeing the driver in /etc/X11/XF86Config from 'nvidia' to
just 'nv'.   This will use the built-in opensource NVidia driver.  
[However, I confess that I love the speed of the proprietary drivers, so
I use them].
