wine is good for fun. WineX is great for games.
To run MS Office you really should check out CodeWeavers CrossOver Office. Great program and runs Office 2K almost perfectly. The downside to CrossOver is that it's not free, but neither if Office if you're trying to run that. Have you tried OpenOffice as an alternative to MS Office?
