Hello, I am currently running RH 7.2 w/ Security updates. I am having problems using tar and my 4mm tape drive. When I attempt a tar to tape, the system will freeze after a random amount of time or MB backed up. There is nothing I can do except, reboot the system. There are no errors logged anywhere on the system.
I have done ran the tar job while watching top in another session, and right before it freezes, the tar CPU usage starts to climb. I installed the latest version of tar, but it also has the same problems. Top also reports that my 192MB RAM system isn't using any of its 900MB swap. I'm not sure if that is an issue though. Most of the time the server sits at .3-.5 load. Any Ideas and or help would be greatly appreciated. Brent S.
