I appreciate all the responses I have received. They have been extremely helpful. Right now I'm trying the combination of: MailScanner/Sendmail/SpamAssassin/F-Prot. The install was really very easy on RH8 and everything appears to be running, but I can't send mail and port 25 is not open. (no firewall currently running)
I can send mail from the local machine, just not from any clients. Using webmin if I go into the sendmail configuration, user mailboxes, and compose a message from root, it gets sent ok. I can "ps -ef | grep send" and see that sendmail is running. If I stop MailScanner and start the Sendmail process, it says it starts, but port 25 is still not open. I did not verify sendmail was working before installing the other pieces. Best I can tell from the logs everything has started ok. Any suggestions for tracking down the problem?
