The file: ~/.vimrc with the contents: syntax off turns off the eyesore^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hcolors. However, the "view" command then starts getting an error: Error detected while processing /home/user/.vimrc: line 1: E319: Sorry, the command is not available in this version: syntax off (where "/home/user" is the path to your home directory).
