I believe this may be a function of the desktop GUI used. There have been 
a lot of reports on the Psyche list of screensavers not working under 
KDE. I have a clean install using KDE and I can verify that screen savers 
are not working.

Oddly enough, a quick bugzilla check against kdebase shows no screensaver 
related bug reports. So we know it isn't a bug! ;)
