I thought about that, except that the arrangement I described is working fine on my (current) RH 7.2 box at home, and has worked fine back when it was 7.0, 6.1, 6.0, etc. Your suggestion may well turn out to be the only workaround, but I hate to duplicate files unnecessarily.
