Has anyone seen an issue with certain fonts not getting
recongized by RH8 after being added?

I've recently installed RH8 on a Compaq PC at work to RH8, first
a 7.2->8 upgrade, then blew away 7.2 and installed 8 clean. I
copied the Sun Screen*.Z monospaced fonts to
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc, uncompressed and recompressed
them to *.gz, then ran `mkfontdir .` and `xset fp rehash`. They
all show up in an `xlsfonts` listing, but even after a reboot
refuse to appear in any of the Gnome font dialogs, neither as
root nor as my user account. The strange thing is that in the
previous installation (which shared the drive with NT4 before,
now RH8 is the only OS on the system), the fonts would show up
in KDE dialogs, but not Gnome. Now they are visible in neither.
I really need them, since they're far superior (IMO) to any of
the monospaced fonts bundled with RHx and work nicely with a
dark (black) terminal background color.

I'd appreciate any pointers, as I've used these fonts not only
on my Sun Blade 100 and Ultra 1 at work (running Solaris 2.6, 7,
8 & 9 at one time or another), but also on five different PCs
running RH 6.[01] and 7.[02]. It's not a problem with the fonts,
as far as I can tell. How do I get them to be available to
KDE/Gnome apps? Is this a known issue? Until I resolve this, I'm
waiting to upgrade my home maching from 7.2 to 8.0 (along with
some other things, including how to undo most of what Bluecurve
does).

Thanks.
