The latest versions of rpm (Those in the limbo/null beta) do some 
dependency checking and suggest solutions, I believe. I haven't had a 
chance to install the beta, so I can't comment on how well this function 
works.

I'm actually working on something along these lines. No idea on if/when 
it'll be ready however.
