I had the rare "kernel panic" problem with a system running
Red Hat 7.0. The problem increased in frequency - from once every 10
days to nearly every 24 hours - over a period of about a month.
The problem was incredibly hard to trace, since it seemed to
affect different programs at different times. The pattern was ...
there WAS no pattern!
The box was a custom setup - no major manufacturer like Dell,
HP, etc. It was built from the ground up with an ASUS CL-2
motherboard and Micron RAM. This turned out to be the problem! It
seems as though ASUS motherboards don't LIKE Micron RAM, so weird
things happen.

My system chewed through BOTH 256K RAM modules to the point
that it was amazing that the server even booted up. Switching to
Samsung RAM and no problems for nearly a year.

WRITE THIS DOWN! ... ASUS motherboards don't like Micron RAM!! ;-)

Don't know if this info will help you, but it might help
someone else. Good hunting.
