Not quite that bad I think :)

Oops.

Great!

BTW - if you control the DHCP server, you can set up DNS automatically to
the clients through that too. This would not have ever happened.

Don't know. The installer does not account EVERY single piece of hardware in
existance today. In fact, scrolling back through the list you will find I
had some trouble with an Adaptec AHA1542CP SCSI adapter during install too.
If the installer comes to the part where it checks for network, and the
drivers aren't loaded, that's probably what happened. On my case, it got to
disk druid and promptly told me I had no hard disk. Same thing. No drivers
loaded for the adapter meant Linux had no way to detect the hard disk. Only
some selected network adapters are probed at start-up. I never have any
problems on PCs with Intel EtherExpress Pro cards for example, but I'm not
sure the drivers for the USB Ethernet adapter are probed at install at all.

I've actually ALWAYS had to set that manually. Are you sure this is supposed
to be automatic?

> Still bugs in the Redhat installer?

Depends what you call a bug. I wouldn't call it a bug, just because of the
fact that we are using hardware which is a bit more obscure than standard.
Can you imagine if RedHat installer went through and probed for EVERY single
device known today before continuing install? It would take an incredible
amount of time, if accurate at all.

HOWEVER having said that, I do have to say I certainly in my case would have
preferred an extra screen before install. Most definately. Simply one which
shows all detected hardware, then says something like 'Would you like to set
up any additional devices?'. Then allowing you to pick from SCSI cards,
Ethernet cards etc. etc. etc. THAT would in fact make my life much easier.

But we can't have everything. Especially not at the price that's asked for
it.

> Anyway, thanks for your help and sorry to bother you...

No bother - glad you got it sorted.

Regards,
Ed.
