7.3 DOES NOT work on 845G chipsets, there are problems with the Super I/O controller. It loads and runs, but performance on the IDE chipset is terrible, around 2.8Mbs at best. Plus some other issue with the PCI bus that Alan and others discussed on the kernel mailing lists, and pointed to the vendor having to make a BIOS upgrade available to fix the issue. I wouldn't call the ASUS p4b533 motherboards off mainstream, the 845G on the Intel board doesn't work either, same issues.
