I have installed RH7.3 on a Dell Inspiron Laptop 2650 with a mobile 845MZ
chipset and I also custom compiled the kernel with built-in drivers. It
works fine although kernel confesses that it can not recognize the chipset
and runs it as PIIX.
Unfortunately ACPI does not work and some advanced features of 845MZ are not
accessible. However audio is alright (AC97) and so is Nvidia 2 working of
AGP bus and even winmodem works fine with beta drivers.

My resolution is that on reasonably standard motherboards there should be no
problem with 845 chipsets when using RH7.3, however the ones off the
mainstream may have some glitches that should be overcome when the full 845
support becomes available.

Hope it helps,

Petr Kubecka

Alex, thanks! I've tried 7.3 and it still doesn't support the 845G chipset
yet.
