I am have problems with my laptop and have traced most of the problem to
the fact the loopback interface does not get an IP address.

On start up the lo interface does startup. What used to work was adding
the computer name to the hosts file i.e.

127.0.0.1 dbrett localhost localhost.localdomain

the reason for this is, is I use dhcp to get an IP address. If I run
'ifconfig lo up 127.0.0.1', this works without any pproblems.

What do I have to do fix this so I don't have to manual give the lo an IP
address?

david
