What version of Red Hat Linux, and specifically, what kernel?

A google search for "linux sun slow nfs" turns up the following two
documents as the first results:
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/
http://ccjsun.riken.go.jp/ccj/doc/NFSbench99Apr.html

Both seem to say the same thing: Linux 2.2 uses NFS2, and it's helluva
slow. Linux 2.4 has support for NFS3, and should be a helluva lot
faster.

The second document referenced above shows differences of more like 10
times between Linux 2.2 and Sun.
