What version of Red Hat Linux, and specifically, what kernel? A google search for "linux sun slow nfs" turns up the following two documents as the first results: http://nfs.sourceforge.net/ http://ccjsun.riken.go.jp/ccj/doc/NFSbench99Apr.html Both seem to say the same thing: Linux 2.2 uses NFS2, and it's helluva slow. Linux 2.4 has support for NFS3, and should be a helluva lot faster. > We undertook some tests wherein the storage device was NFS mounted on boxes > running Redhat linux and also on boxes running Solaris and compared the > performance. > When a solaris client was transferring the data over NFS, the transfer was more > than 5 times faster > as compared to ..when a linux client was transferring the data over NFS to/from > the same storage. The second document referenced above shows differences of more like 10 times between Linux 2.2 and Sun.
