Hello everybody:

I know I have a firewall installed by default in RH7.2.

I bought a book on Getting Started in RH7.2 and according
to them if I wanted to enable FTP and Telnet access (which
by default I do not have) I needed first to allow them from
my firewall.

I had to type,

lokkit -f

and then edit to allow FTP and Telnet. Then after that, I
had to restart ipchains.

Now, I did all of that and when I tried to ftp or telnet
from Windows or Unix machines, I was refused. Following
the thread on "FTP Issues" I realized that I only had the
following packages installed,

gftp-2.0.8-2
ftp-0.17-12
ncftp-3.0.3-6

which were not going to do the job according to what I read
in that thread. Then I need wu-ftpd and/or pro-ftpd.

I want to be clear then, just by installing those two
packages I will be able to ftp to my linux box? What are
the necessary ones to enable telnet? I only have
telnet-0.17-20 installed (again default)

Now, let's assume that I install the packages using
"up2date". Do I have to enable the services or are they
automatically started?

Finally, do I have to specify which computers can do
telnet/ftp to my linux box or can I telnet/ftp from any
machine?

Sorry for this long mail,

Cesar
