you just hit on the central theme to my new book "how to love and hate redhat at the same time". I'm swamped, and hate doing kernel upgrades manually, so I limit them to functionality requirements or security reasons. All the same, I remember not too long ago pulling kernel updates from RH one night and spending the next several hours unscrewing 6 servers.
