I think you can stop waiting, it's not going to boot. ;)

Is this kernel for Red Hat 7.2? You mentioned the 2.4.7-10 kernel in your 
post, which was the kernel in the initial release of 7.2.

First, why the old kernel? There have been several updates, the current 
kernel being 2.4.9-31.

Are you using ext3 partitions? Did you enable ext3 support in the kernel?
If it is enabled as a module, did you create an initrd.img?
