RAID-5 is best (only?) done in hardware. Check out the 3Ware 7000 cards 
(sold at www.cdw.com and others, homepage at www.3ware.com), as well as the 
Promise Supertrak family of cards (don't recall the URL). Those are 
Hardware RAID and you should have no problem with them. Note that 3Ware's 
support of Linux is reputed to be extremely strong and of excellent 
quality; a good reason to buy from them.
