  Thanks!  I was not aware the /var/log/dmesg contained more info and simply 
entering 'dmesg ' as the command line.  I'll also check the man page on 
modprobe.  I usually recompile my kernel to contain just those things I need 
and have avoided modules - but I guess it's time for me to learn some more!
