You might try looking in /var/log/dmesg.  What you get from the
'dmesg' command doesn't seem to be the full contents of
/var/log/dmesg.  It apparently just shows a portion of it.

Perhaps you can run modprobe yourself to see which ones fail?  E.g.,

# modprobe -a *
