Hi,

I plan to install RH on my flashy new box with the Abit KR7A-RAID board.
It uses the Highpoint HPT 372 IDE RAID chip and works fairly well under
*duck* Windows. Yet I was not successful with getting Linux installed on
it. The kernel hangs right after boot and throws some cryptic error
messages on the screen. My guess is that it cannot detect the RAID
controller and drives correctly.

So far I tried the following:

1. Followed the Linux instructions from Highpoint for RH 7.1. They
recommend to upgrade the BIOS to version 2.1 or higher. I downloaded v 2.3
and tried to flash the prom - and failed.
2. Regardless of the BIOS version I tried to install RH 7.1 utilizing the
install driver disk Highpoint provided. On the initial screen I entered
"linux dd" as I have the driver disk. Yet I don't even get a chance to feed
the driver to Linux. It just crashes and gives me kernel errors.

Did anybody ever successfully try to install RH on a board with this
controller ? If yes, may you share your experience with me / us ? If not,
does someone have a clue how to get RH's attention that the driver is
avialable on floppy disk when I boot from CD-ROM ?

I really really would like to get Linux to run on this box. W2k is already
like a rocket, so Linux must be entirely mindblowing. So far it only blows
the install.

                        Any hint is highly appreciated.

                                        David
