On that line, every ethernet card I've used in the last dozen years
or so has a low-level utility that will do card configuration, local
diagnostics, and network checks. While most are kicked off under DOS,
this is as close to a stand-alone test as you can carry out without
equipment. Have you run this to guarantee the hardware's talking at
the lowest level?
