See my previous mail. Ipchains _or_ iptables, you can't load both. This output looks as though the ipchains modules are already loaded. > [root@ns2 root]# > > This is a Redhat 7.2 install, default i686 kernel (i did not update the > kernel but did update iptables, and when i did the iptables update it > did give errors) > I did not update the kernel because i saw no exploits from externel > sources that i could be rooted with, if im wrong please let me know > the other main reason i didnt update the kernel is because i went from > lilo to grub and i remotely admin the box, would hate to do an update > and a reboot and have the box die for some reason. Iptables and ipchains are both included as modules in the stock kernel. kernel updates are normally released for good reason, I'd update the kernel. > Question: someone told me you no longer have to edit a file and run > lilo etc for grub. You just do the rpm -Uvh file.rpm and your done. > When you reboot it will take effect, is this true? I'd suggest rpm -ivh for kernels. It will leave the old kernel in place as a fail safe. The new kernel is added to grub.conf and you shouldn't have to do anything beyond installing the kernel rpm. You might want to edit /etc/grub.conf, and change the value for the default kernel to boot, however. I believe the old kernel will be marked default. - -D - -- pgp key: http://www.tuxfan.homeip.net:8080/pgpkey.txt - -- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8FDwTeMAUbzJhSVcRAjcTAKCgNOLeLnZgNTtaEu7nKn3087xWXACgthBK DFqusF7kjhUH3jUyrxemHgA= =zxrZ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Redhat-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
