That was it.  Thank you very much.
My problem was I assumed (never never never assume) that the correct
processor was already in there.  This is the first time I tried building a
kernel on anything but a standard Intel.
Thank y'all for the help, alot less stress now :O)

At what point does it freeze with the new kernel?  I remember that I had
a kernel freeze while it was decompressing the kernel image.  I
accidently selected the wrong processor type in the beginning.
