Have you mapped all your smb users to your linux login accounts using
smbadduser $LINUXUSERNAME:$WINDOWSUSERNAME
and assigned password using
smbpasswd

smbadduser usually takes care of setting the smb passwd but I have had to do
it using smbpasswd before

Also verify that your /etc/samba/smb.conf shows
encrypt passwords = yes

if you set it up this way, you shouldnt have to change any settings on your
Windows box, My whole family logs in this way
and uses bat files in /home/netlogon to map specific shares and printers for
different users.
