I've got to say that the best deal I've come up with, in terms of quality
and Linux compatibility, has been a couple of HP printers I installed
at home.

The HP Laserjet 1200 has been a rock for fast black & white laser
printing.

The HP Business Inkjet 2250 has been more than excellent for color.
Note that the 2250 costs more than the bottom-of-the-line inkjets, but
the fact that it has replacable print heads, and capacious ink cartridges,
means I won't be landfilling it in a year.

Both support full PostScript emulation as well as native PCL, meaning the
Win and Linux boxes are both happy. The printers are running off the
network using a Netgear printserver PS110--again, no problems except
I can't use the HP Win-based printer monitors to get printer status
remotely. Big deal.

Cheers,
