7.2 - fully updated (except for kernel)

My Epson Stylus 740 is recognized and prints fine.  The printer config test
printed out fine.  There's one thing though... the contrast is about 25% too
light, in color as well as b&w.

Interestingly, though I had been having this problem with the printer config
test and StarOffice, I thought I better check printing using 'lpr' directly.
It printed with low contrtast, too.

A 'gedit' test was even more weird, in that the print preview **window show=
s**
the default title and the 'Page: 1/1' as being somewhat low contrast, and t=
he
text body as very low contrast.  And that was the way it was printed.  The =
text
body printed with the lower cotrast I've been talking about above, and the
default header info printing with contrast at about half between what I'm
complaining about and what I'd like to see.

Is there any to adjust this on a system wide basis?

Workarounds?
