don't even want to know how you read that log. Opening a 270Mb log file in 
vi is probably an experience.

The way I see it you have to choices: Either you disable logging because 
apparently your not reading them anyway or you have a look in 
/etc/logrotate.conf and try to see why it doesn't rotate anymore.

I advice you to stop syslogd, either copy the "message" file manually to 
any place you want to keep it and zero the original (> message) after which 
you should run logrotate manually

         logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf

to see if it gives you errors. Don't try to experiment with the 270Mb file 
in place because you're probably going to freeze your machine.
