If this is a dedicated Solaris disk you should definitely try mounting
/dev/sdb instead of /dev/sdb1. Or maybe you need to access the Solaris
paritions as if they are logical partitions. (This is how one mounts FreeBSD
partitions at least. Never tried using a whole disk though.) Try mounting
/dev/sdb5 etc. Tell us what the geometry of the disk is from Solaris's
perspective.
