I couldn't resist...
/home/rmadison$ uptime
5:23pm up 155 days, 1:14, 27 users, load average: 0.34, 0.38, 0.40
/home/rmadison$
Surely someone can beat that...
Seriously though, I agree 100% with Gustav. I have administered some older
SunOS boxes that had been up so long, that they forgot how long they had
been up. When I did an uptime, the Number of days field was just blank. I
asked the previous SA, and he said that in all the time he had been watching
out for it, it had not been rebooted, and that was a couple years.
Memory leaks, or problems requiring things to be "refreshed"
occasionally, are generally the result of poorly written applications. Since
an operating system is just another application, then if it needs to be
refreshed / rebooted, well, then the cause... hmm is it poorly written? I
think so.

Subject: unix sys
here's a problem 'bout unix .
Is there any limitation for UNIX machines that they should be restarted
after n days.
I'm in interested in :
* number of days after which the UNIX m/c should be rebooted
* where is the documentation available for this.
Information related to any flavour of UNIX (LINUX etc) is welcome
Windows crashes automatically if the m/c is not switched off
for 49.7 days and this is accepted by Microsoft.
I heard that the unix system cud probably be rebooted after n days in order
to flush some memory space, inode entries etc..
I need more information..........................
