I would agree with the hard to locate stuff.  Or even worse dated or
conflicting information.  The issue can be which FM to read :)
When I started with linux I can't tell you how much time I spent reading docs
I found on the internet only to find a new tool that was already installed on
my machine that simplified the task, or that the docs were about a version
that was updated several times and no longer applied.  That said,  I usually
stick with the docs on the machine first, man pages, info documentation, and
the /usr/doc/package stuff ( there can be a tremendous amount of info buried
in there with no way to know about it unless you look.  At least this way I am
reading docs that  (usually) refer to the installed software.

I try to give enough info in responses to gt someone started as well as a
pointer to where more information can be found.
