I've just installed a Seagate ST224000N-SB, Scoprion 24GB SCSI tape on my RH 7.0 system. Seagate has been worse the useless in providing assistance. After much digging in dejanews, I've found a set of definitions to put in /etc/stinit.def that supposedly enable the hardware compression in the drive. Unfortunately, while stinit appears to work correctly, I'm having no luck in getting compression actually to work. Trying to dump / of a freshly installed system (right around 1GB of data) requires more than 1 tape and I know this isn't correct. Has anyone succeeded in getting this, or a similar, tape drive working with hardware compression. If so, I'd love to hear what you did.
