Hi,
I have had netscape's bus error on occasion even with RH7.
The problem:
When composing new mail as user robert, when I access the address book,
select an address, click the 'To' button, netscape exits completely
leaving the error message 'bus error'. The message is seen in an xterm.
The setup:
I am sure the problem is to do with networking. My setup is for dial
out and using IP masquerading on my linux box in my office (the server).
The weird solution:
I noticed that root does not have the problem above. I copied .netscape
directory from root to user robert (where the problem is) changed all
files to correct ownership, edited preferences.js by changing all
occurrences of 'root' -> '/home/robert' in the file and bingo no more
'bus error' from netscape!
I reinstalled rh 7 on a new machine later and had to do the same as
above. Also dial up networking was used.
I would prefer a more scientific solution if anybody knows about
netscape's bus error. Next thing the solution will only work when it is
done at full moon.........!
