Hiya - I have had LPR working happily on a server but haven't used it
for a year or so. I just tried to setup a printer for sharing with
samba and couldn't get it to work. During my debugging I decided to
check if the printer was indeed still working. So i did:

echo "hello" | lpr

and... well - lpq showed that there was a job in the queue - although
the list looks a bit strange:

[root@server lp]# lpq
server.domain.com: sending to printer.domain.com
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
0 bytes

no entries

anyway - for the life of me I can't get the printer to print anything
now... I *can* print to the printer via LPR using my macintosh - so
I'm pretty sure that the problem is in my linux setup.

my /etc/printcap looks like this:

lp:\
         :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
         :mx#0:\
         :sh:\
         :rm=printer.domain.com:\
         :rp=/:\
         :if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:

does anyone have any ideas as to where I might be going wrong / what
I should check. everything looks right to me... except for the lpq
output that is!

oh yeah - I've only got shell access to this machine now - no X
windows gui niceties for me! :)

Thanks in advance, Dan.
