I am not sure, but it could mean installing a linux filesystem on top of a
Windows partition (UMSDOS), or maybe just as a huge file that contains a whole
filesystem and is mounted as a loopback device. You don't need a separate
filesystem for linux this way, but you will suffer in performance, and if
Windows screws its filesystem your whole installation is useless. I'd
recommend using this only for testing, or if you really can't repartition.
