Not really. Can't speak for pine, but mutt has the capability of
spawning the browser of your choice for HTML mail. Or (better option
IMO), completely strip out the HTML. URLs can be accessed by the
urlview program which puts them into a menu like list. Or use
gnome-terminal and have direct access to URLs. Now if all your mail
(or most) is HTML, not a good choice clearly. But ...

Also, I think the established text readers like mutt are infinitely
more configurable as the handling of HTML illustrates.
