I don't have a 300X, but I just shoved a 610N in my 2100M earlier this week
(one of the EIO cards).  It came up, grabbed an address via DHCP, and was
ready to go.  I hit it with a web browser, changed the passwords,
set it to a static IP address, turned off IPX, IPP and DLC - boom, ready
to go.  It works for Windoze, Linux (via normal LPR), and Macs.

The 610N (10/100 EIO card), does:

LPR
9100/tcp (standard JetDirect thing)
IPP
IPX
DLC
Appletalk

Piece of cake to work with.
