minicom can be used for this purpose. JUst set up a connection with empty
modem initialization strings, fix the data rate and comm parameters, and
it works fine.
My personal choice, however, is kermit. Source can be downloaded from
Columbia U. (kermit.columbia.edu). It is fast, lightweight, very
flexible. I use it extensively - even the old DOS version in a DOS
session under Win* in preference to HyperTerm.
