Hi All,

I'd just like to pass on a few words of advice based on my own
experiences.

I worked as a SysAdmin in South America for five years,

there I did aside fom System Administration, ensure that everyting
holding up the system worked, this included from checking the standby
generator's oil and fluid levels to checking the air conditioning and
standby units. There were constant power problems with brown outs, black
outs, power surges and even lightning. So I learned to take power
protection seriously.

Now, I spend the extra time to include power protection devices on all
lines in and out of my home lan and to check polarities. So my power
supplies are all on good surge protection equipment as well as my phone
lines.

What suprises me is the amount of people who take the power for granted
and just plug stuff directly into the walls.

Anyway, today we had a nice lightning storm. It hit my building. The
strike came down my phone line and blew ny phone protection equipment.
Cost? About $20 worth of damage, but, the equipment did what it was
designed to do. Protect the important stuff.

My two cents worth of advice to all is: If you're not using power
protection devices, assess the potential loss if a surge hits your
equipment and consider investing in power protection equipment if you
can't afford the loss.

I really was glad I did.

regards,

Ahbaid.

P.S. Wonder if I'll need some flame protection equipment? :)
