Because of the way system security works under Linux (and unices in
general), anti-virus software isn't really required. The only known
"virii" for unix systems rely on Trojan horses; innocent looking
packages with malignant scripts in them. For this reason, the most
useful anti-virus program on a Linux or unix system is simply to be
very careful to look at the contents of a package before installing
it on your system. I make it a point to not install binary RPM's
unless they're from trusted sites, such as Red Hat, Caldera, etc.
For other sites, I d/l the SRC rpms, open them up, inspect any
scripts that are executed, and then rebuild/install. Just make it
a point to never run code/scripts as root on your system without
inspecting them, unless you're convinced they come from safe sources.

The only commercial anti-virus program I'm aware of for Linux at this
time inspects files for MS virii. It's purpose is to allow operators
of download sites to inspect files before posting them on their web
sites for others to download.

Disk Defragmentors: there is at least one available, try rpmfind.com.
It's not really worth it, as the ext2 file system is inherently hard
to fragment. I just installed MS Win 2000 on a laptop, and at the
end of the installation checked the drives for fragmentation out of
curiousity. They were at 8.6% already. My Linux 6.2 system, which
has been [ab]used for quite awhile, and rather heavily, too, is at
about 4% as of this morning. Don't bother.
