I'm not sure what's up withe the redhat-list so I've sent this directly to
you guys as well.

Kevin, I have not tried the hardware trick of doubling the resolution - I
may not get to try it for a few days either.

Steve, would you mind asking your guys if they used the hardware trick or
the latest beta mga driver? The config fiel you sent makes me think it's
the driver, but your description sounds like the hardware trick.

I have had bad luck with the driver - I got it working, but it was
very unstable - see below for details.

Thanks. This is consistant with the one Steve sent me. Works too once I
heeded the following :)

aah. Now this made the difference. Once I installed the latest mga driver
I got it working! However, it kept locking up the machine. Even leaving
the machine idle it locked up. I also tried switching back to single head,
no xinerama and it locked up the machine.. I think I'm going to wait a
while:)

I don't remember - some thread I was following after doing a google
search.

With the driver I downloaded, 1280x1024 was indeed the highest the second
monitor was driven at. I guess two monitors at 1280x1024 is better than
one at 1600x1280, but I can't deal with this kind of instability. I have
not tried to rebuild XFree86 and this module from the source though. I'm
about to upgrade my hardware (but keeping this card) so I might consider
trying this once I get the new box up.

BTW, what is the best window manager for xinerama? sawfish certainly
didn't like it. I switched to enlightenment, but it seemed like gnome was
still trying to load sawfish as well. I tried KDE, but didn't really like
it.

thanks for all the help
