I see your point. I kept the sound stuff in the kernel just in case I was
going to add a sound card to the box. Since this is a server and there's no
need for sound I might as well go ahead and remove the sound modules in
question. I'd like to remove all other unneeded stuff from my kernel as
well. The only problem is I don't know what half that stuff is! I'm
reluctant to remove anything I'm not sure I don't need. Anyway, I'll remove
the sound modules I can always compile it back in if I needed.
As far as compiling everything into the kernel instead of using modules,
wouldn't that make the kernel huge? Aren't there restrictions on how big
your kernel can be?
Thanks for your advice,
BW

All it means is that dependencies haven't been satisfied.. or that's as I
remember. This is a sound module, if I remember correctly.. and I remember
some talk about it recently. If sound_core and sound aren't installed.. or
if they don't exist.. it'll prolly result in this way.
check your /etc/conf.modules and make sure there isn't any funky things
getting loaded... other than that you should be able to ignore it.. I
think.
As far as kernel compilation goes... It's always best to compile a kernel
to fit your system. RedHat just provides one which will work halfway
decently on most systems... but if you want anything solid, then you're
best off running through a compile or two on your own :)
I prefer to have everything built right into the kernel.. or as many
things as possible. Modules scare me at times :)
