Thanks Rob and John, I appreciate your suggestions!  

I'll track down ethereal and see if I can find anything useful with
that.  

I should have drawn this ASCII art:

A is a 3com Super Stack 2 500  10/100 24 port hub
B is a generic 10M 24 port
C is an NBase Communications NX300FO tranceiver.

A&B are connected to each other via a jumper on the "uplink" port
C is connected to B through the AUI port on the generic hub
Glass connects the Cs.  I don't think I'm out of spec here for hops
