I've just upgraded my name servers to Bind8 (slow.. I know! :) The problem I'm getting is it's giving me "Non-authoritative answer" on all queries I look up with nslookup on my primary and secondary name servers. Now the DNS and Bind 3rd Edition explains this as being "ok" because it's coming out of a cache. My question is, shouldn't the primary DNS for my zone NOT be reading from a cache, but from the actual name files? What could be wrong? It's a real basic config file, and I didn't modify ANYTHING in the actual DNS flatfile databases. Is this normal?
