What error message do you get? Are they actually installed? Do you find
them if you do a "locate [command name]"? There is a good chance that
they don't run because they are not found in your path. If that's the
case, all you need to do is specify the absolute path in the command line:
/sbin/ifconfig -a
If that works you can then add the /sbin directory to your path in the
.bashrc or .bash_profile files.
